There is an art to photographing roses, just as there is to growing them. Each stage of rose growth and photography technique is in a different class. See the documents below to learn more about the art and culture of rose photography. Be sure to check out the various ARS Digital Photography Contests and the District Rose Show Photography Opportunities.

ENTRIES MUST BE POSTMARKED BY NOVEMBER 5, 2024.

Advance your winning photographs. You are encouraged to enter your photos that have won in local or District competitions. Do not submit photos that have previously won in National print or digital contests.

ENTRIES MUST BE POSTMARKED BY NOVEMBER 5, 2023. Entries can be submitted via Dropbox. The files should be uploaded and the link sent to  americanrosephoto@yahoo.com . Please make sure if you send the photos via Dropbox that you include a copy of the entry form. If you are not familiar with Dropbox, ask for a link at  americanrosephoto@yahoo.com.

The Thumb Drive will not be returned and should have the contestant’s name, e-mail and address printed on the drive.

All rights to the submitted photographs are retained by the owners of the photographs.

However, by submitting a photograph to the contest, the exhibitor (1) warrants that he or she owns the copyright of the submitted photograph and is not legally prohibited from submitting it to the contest, and (2) agrees to allow the American Rose Society to publish the photograph in American Rose. Any individual that enters this contest also gives express permission for the American Rose Society to reproduce their photographs for educational and/or display purposes with a credit line to the photographer whenever possible. The American Rose Society may use the photograph in any publication or magazine but will not sell the photograph. Any inquiries about sale of the photograph will be referred to the photographer.

Judges judging the photography section of the show and members of their immediate family should not exhibit except in classes specified for the judges. Under no circumstances shall any winner from a class for judges or members of their immediate family be considered for any show award other than an award the Show Committee may designate for the judges’ class or classes.

You are encouraged to advance your photos that have won in local or District contests.  Photos winning in previous ARS National digital or print photo contests are not allowed.

General Photography Tips

Camera Users:  Set your camera options to the highest resolution and picture size possible.
Phone camera users:  Photos from any 12 megapixel phone sent at largest size should render a photo sufficient to reach 10×13 and 300 dpi size requirements. iPhones 6s and forward and Samsung’s S4 and forward work for most photography.
